GIPSIES IN KENT
A Talk by SIMON EVANS

Simon Evans gave an excellent talk accompanied by slides, illustrating the changing life style of gipsies in Kent from horse drawn caravans in open fields, cooking on fires, through to the present day council-provided sites with large caravans towed by pickup trucks.

He showed that the traditional nomadic lifestyle had altered with the disappearance of the seasonal works such as fruit and hop picking.

He explained that even though some gipsies had moved into houses, they still retained a lot of the Romany traditions.
